Climate Flood Risk
& Resilience Assessment.

Forward-looking flood risk analysis using CMIP6 climate projections — sizing infrastructure for the climate it will actually face in 2050 and 2100, not the climate of the last century.

What it is

Climate Flood Risk & Resilience — what HYDRisk delivers.

Infrastructure designed using only historical rainfall data is designed for a climate that no longer exists. Extreme rainfall events have already intensified across many regions since 1950. Across the Middle East and GCC, flash flood frequency in arid catchments is projected to increase by 40% or more by 2050. Sea levels are rising. Storm intensities are increasing.

HYDRisk Climate Flood Risk & Resilience Assessments use CMIP6 — the latest generation of global climate model projections — to quantify how flood risk will change over the lifetime of a proposed project. Two scenarios are modelled: SSP2-4.5 (moderate emissions, likely trajectory) and SSP5-8.5 (high-end scenario, planning upper bound).

The results are presented alongside historical flood risk analysis — giving decision-makers a clear picture of current risk, near-term risk (2050), and long-term risk (2100) across all required return periods.

IFC Performance Standard PS1 and PS4 now explicitly require climate risk assessment for long-lived infrastructure projects. Equator Principles signatory banks require the same. HYDRisk Climate FRAs are structured to satisfy these requirements.

Why climate-adjusted risk matters
“Projects designed for yesterday's climate will be underdesigned for tomorrow's floods. The margin of error is no longer small.”

Why it matters

Four reasons this service is critical to your project.

Understanding what this study delivers — and what happens without it — is the fastest way to evaluate whether your project needs it.

IFC PS4 and Equator Principles require climate risk assessment
These standards now explicitly require assessment of climate-related risks over a project's lifetime. Without it, project finance applications are incomplete.
Historically-sized infrastructure will be underdesigned by mid-century
A system designed to the current 1-in-100-year event may face it every 50 years by 2050 — designing without climate adjustment means building infrastructure that fails prematurely.
ESG-focused lenders now assess climate risk as standard
Institutional investors and DFIs financing long-lived projects increasingly require climate risk due diligence — absence of it delays or blocks financing.
Retrofit after the fact costs far more than adaptation upfront
Building climate-adjusted resilience into the original design is a fraction of the cost of retrofitting flood protection once a project is already operating.
