Flood Mitigation & Protection Design — what HYDRisk delivers.

Flood mitigation and protection design converts the findings of a flood risk assessment into physical engineering solutions. Where an FRA identifies unacceptable flood risk, mitigation design specifies what needs to be built, where, how big, and at what cost — to reduce that risk to an acceptable level.

HYDRisk mitigation studies begin with an options appraisal — evaluating all feasible mitigation measures for the specific site and flood mechanism, and comparing them on technical effectiveness, cost, constructability, maintenance requirements and residual risk. The most appropriate option is then developed to a conceptual design level.

Mitigation measures commonly designed include flood barriers and temporary defences, raised site levels, river embankments and levees, flood storage and attenuation basins, stormwater diversion infrastructure, and flood-resistant design of building elements.

Post-mitigation residual risk assessment is an essential component of every HYDRisk mitigation study — demonstrating to regulators and lenders that the proposed measures achieve the required level of protection.
